Luke Pollard

Labour & Co-operative MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport

2017 General Election Results

"Plymouth has it's voice back in Parliament."

Luke was elected on 9 June 2017 as the Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport with a majority of 6,807 votes.

at 4:30am on election night, in his victory speech, Luke said:

"I'm proud of Plymouth. Proud to have been born here. Proud to live here. And now I'm very proud to be a Member of Parliament here. I want to thank the people of Plymouth Sutton & Devonport for putting their trust in me to be their new MP. I especially want to thank all those people who voted Labour and who voted for the very first time. We've seen so many young people put their trust in politics - casting their ballot for a better city and I want to say thank you to all of them.

It's traditional that I thank the police and the counting staff for keeping us safe and speeding through the count tonight. I'd also like to thank Oliver Colevile for his service to our city, I look forward to working with Oliver with the handover of casework to make sure everyone who has gotten in touch with their Member of Parliament gets the support they need.

But the campaign for better schools and a better NHS in Plymouth starts now. Our campaign to extend the M5 from Exeter to Plymouth begins now. Our campaign to re-open Plymouth Airport begins now. Our campaign for a cruise terminal at Millbay begins now. Our campaign for a proper, costed railway begins now. And so does the campaign to ensure that Plymouth Sound is designated the UK's first National Marine Park.

But there's something else. I want to give notice to Plymouth's Tory MPs. Everytime you vote against Plymouth's best interests, I will be there to expose you. I will be there to fight for Plymouth. Plymouth deserves a better deal. We deserve our fair share and the fight for our fair share begins today. Thank you, Plymouth."
