Residents concern at Ivybridge Incinerator Plans

Having asked local residents what their issues were in Ivybridge Luke today met a group of local people in Ivybridge to talk about their concerns about the incinerator planned by Viridor for Lee Mill.

Luke said: “From speaking to local residents over the past few weeks and today it is clear that very few people know about Viridor’s plans for an incinerator on their doorstep. Now is not the time to be placing blame at Viridor or the Council. What we need now is for the company and the council to come forward with a proper consultation with local people. It should not be right that the first people know about this is when they watch a video about it on my website – and that is how people are learning about it.”

“Ivybridge Labour believes the Council will likely accept Viridor’s plans for an incinerator. What we want to make sure is that if they do so they understand the views of local people and take them into account when coming to that final decision. There are still far too many unanswered questions about these plans. The lack of proper consultation and engagement with the people who will live in the incinerator’s shadow is deeply worrying. I will be making representations to the Council and the company about this because it simply isn’t good enough.”
