Working with local residents Ivybridge Labour has organised a public meeting to discuss plans by Viridor for a waste to energy incinerator at New England Quarry just south of Lee Mill.
The public meeting is being held in the Community Room at Chapel Place in Ivybridge at 2pm on Saturday 21 November. We have invited Viridor to send a representative and we’ve also invited Ivybridge’s Tory Councillor who represents the town on Devon County Council who leads the Council’s search for an incinerator and has shortlisted the New England Quarry site as one of the options he is considering. I’ll be on the panel as well and I’ll be joined by Frankie Dolan, one of the local residents who spoke in this video last week, to give a residents’ perspective.
Viridor have announced that they are planning on submitting a planning application for the incinerator at the end of November and this means that this meeting could be the last time local people have to have their views heard before an application is submitted. It is important that Viridor and the Council understands the weight of opinion against their plans.
Viridor claim to have delivered 7,000 leaflets in Ivybridge about the incinerator – have you had one? Are you happy with how much information you have been given about this scheme? Let me know your views and please try and come along to the public meeting on Saturday 21st November at 2pm in the Community Room at Chapel Place in Ivybridge.
If you are on Facebook why not sign up for this event on the special events page we’ve set up here.
