Volunteers from across Plymouth were out in force in Plymstock today delivering leaflets about the Tories selling CityBus against the will of the majority of the people of Plymouth. The leaflet we were delivering today highlights the failings of the Tories to consult local people about the sale, the failings to allow adequate scrutiny of the sale and also their failure to listen to local people.
It means a lot to me when people give up their time to help campaign but when it is icy and cold outside to see people come out campaigning means even more to me. Despite the bad news nationally this is a sign that in Plymouth Labour is still fighting and working hard for local people. We didn’t win the CityBus campaign but let’s be clear about it the Tories should not be celebrating their victory. The Tories highlighted that they won’t listen to local people and will ignore their manifesto promises when it suits them without any remorse or apology.
We now need to make sure that the new owners safeguard routes and jobs. When the Tories were trying to sell CityBus we warned that selling the company would lead to job losses, higher fares and route closures. Our campaign now focuses on safeguarding routes so the ordinary traveller in Plymouth doesn’t lose out from this Tory sale. Can you help?
