About
Welcome to my website. I’m Luke Pollard and I’m standing for Labour in South West Devon at the next General Election. I was selected in September 2007 and since then I’ve been campaigning in Plympton, Plymstock, Ivybridge, Woolwell, Wembury and across the South Hams on local issues. On this site you can find more information about my campaigns and how you can get involved. If you have any views about anything you see on the site please can you let me know.
Ethical Politics – my promises
Like you I was shocked and disgusted by the actions of some MPs in the recent expense scandal. MPs, from all parties, that abused the expense system should have no place in modern politics. They let you down. That’s one reason why I’m pleased to support Labour’s Candidate Pledges. These are a set of promises that I make as a candidate to ensure that if elected I am doing my best for the community. They are:
- I seek elected office for the honour of serving the public and our democracy and not for personal gain
- If elected I will subscribe to the high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and prudence with public money
- Constituents will always come first and I will abide by the current and any new rules on outside earnings
- I will publish online my full salary and Parliamentary allowances
- I believe it a duty to hold regular meetings, engagement events and surgeries with my community and my constituents and will do so
- I will communicate regularly with the electorate and will be available via email and telephone and other means with constituents
- I will regularly report back to my constituency party as well as to my constituents
In addition to these I make the following pledges about my role as your MP in South West Devon
- I will not employ family members
- I will open a constituency office
- I will be a campaigning MP, fighting on local issues
Labour in South West Devon
Labour have traditionally been the main opposition to the Conservatives in South West Devon but at the last General Election the Liberal Democrats took second place from Labour by 400 votes. Despite coming second the Lib Dems have failed to capitalise on this position to hold the Tories to account with Labour delivering more leaflets locally and mounting the main opposition to the Conservative Council’s poor decisions such as their attempts to sell CityBus, attempts to install unwanted speed humps and a Gypsy and Travellers site in Plympton and their failed promises to build a swimming pool in Plymstock.
How can you get involved?
Unlike some of the campaigns run by our opposition all our leaflets are delivered by volunteers.

In 2009 we aim to deliver 75,000 leaflets which is 40,000 more than in 2008. Each leaflet is paid for by donations to the party from local supporters and delivered by a volunteer. Not one penny of tax payers money is used in the campaign.
