The BBC are making a new TV series about the Blitz and have decided to overlook the bombing of Plymouth and Coventry. In the Herald today local historian Chris Robinson and myself raise concerns about Auntie's decision. Plymouth's Blitz history is not just important to the city but to the nation too.
A year ago I launched a campaign with local Councillor Chris Penberthy to have Charles Church properly lit up at night as a way of properly remembering those who died in the Plymouth Blitz. Charles Church now looks good at night but it is still encircled with busy roads and there is no pedestrian access. I will continue to campaign on Charles Church and to remember Plymouth's proud wartime past.
Too often Plymouth's history is overlooked and when that happens we should stand firm and proud of our city's past especially its contribution to the defence of our nation. I urge the BBC to think again about excluding Plymouth from this series.
