Defence spending is the lowest on record

Today HM Treasury revealed that defence spending is the lowest on record at just 1.9% of GDP. This is below the 2% target the Tories have spent so much time boasting about.

In 2015 Oliver Colvile said he would be campaigning for 3% defence spending. That helped swing the constituency on election day - the problem was that the Tories had to game the figures to hit 2% let alone get anywhere near the fictional target of 3%.

What he has done is sit on his hands as his Government cut frigates, scrapped HMS Ocean, sold off Stonehouse Barracks and the Royal Citadel and just before the election cut 200 frontline Royal Marines.

Plymouth deserves better than an MP who is strong on soundbites but weak on delivery.

Check out the figures yourself here kindly tweeted by the BBC's Mark Easton.
