There’s too much noise pollution from illegally modified vehicles on the roads around the Barbican, with some residents kept awake into the early hours.

I’ve submitted an application to the government to make the area a pilot location for their new noise camera scheme, so we can clamp down on these nuisance drivers.

The technology detects drivers who revv excessively or use illegally modified exhausts, to help police issue fines. The government is only looking at installing these cameras in a few locations and I want our city to be one of them.

Last month I asked people to get in touch with suggestions of where noise cameras are most needed, and the Barbican came out top of the list. Thank you to everyone who came forward with their ideas and experiences – communities across our city are affected by excessively noisy drivers and I want to see more done to help them all.
