Last week I was nominated by Cllr Philippa Davey to do the Ice Bucket Challenge. I'm always up for a challenge and accepted so today at the St Levan Summer Fayre I got soaked for charity as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge craze sweeping the internet.
Getting soaked with Mike Sparling for the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were on hand at the Summer Fayre and considering their expertise with water we thought there would be no one better to pour a bucket of ice cold water over us.
What is ALS / MND?
In America, Motor Neurone Disease is know as ALS which is where the #ALSIceBucketChallenge gets its name from. Here in the UK we call it MND and I wanted to do it to help raise awareness of this disease.
Motor Neurone Disease (or MND) is a rare, progressive and debilitating disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord. It leads to weakness and muscle wasting and affects how sufferers walk, talk, eat and breathe. There is no cure.
I'm backing the campaign by MND campaigner Gordon Aikman, who is dying from MND, to fund a cure for MND. You can find out more about MND and what we can all to do fight this horrible disease here and if you want to support Gordon's fundraising you can donate here.
