Library campaign update

Excellent work by Peverell Labour's Jeremy Goslin and volunteers in saving Peverell Library from closure.

The Tories and UKIP wanted to close the library and it was Labour pressure that forced the Tory and UKIP council to u-turn on this ridiculous plan. That library is safe, for now...

What's worrying is that the only library to be saved so far is the one in the most marginal seat for the Tories in Plymouth. They clearly only value libraries when their electoral fortunes are at risk.

So what about the other 9 libraries the Tories and UKIP want to close? Labour opposes the library closures and so do I. The Tories are robbing communities of vital community hubs, places of learning, relaxation, study and safety.

Let's keep the pressure up on the Tories. They clearly only want to save libraries when they are risk of losing their jobs. Voters in Peverell and across Plymouth will remember the only reason why we had to launch a campaign to save Plymouth's libraries was because the Tories wanted to close them in the first place.

It's time for an MP for our constituency who doesn't vote for cut after cut to frontline public services with glee. It's time for an MP who will actually put Plymouth first. Let's vote Oliver Colvile out on 8 June. And then next year let's vote the Tory council out too. In the meantime, let's keep the pressure up on the Tory Council to save every single library in Plymouth from closure.
