In a debate on the strategic road network in the south west this morning Luke asked the Minister to consider extending the M5 from Exeter to the Tamar Bridge.
His response opened the door for the region submitting a funding bid. This is a change in government policy and whether he was caught off guard or whether this is a genuine offer it's something we should take up.
The far south west needs not only a better railway but also better roads, our airport reopened and a cruise terminal at Millbay. We need all four of these not just one of them.
I'm pleased that Conservative-run Plymouth City Council also back extending the M5 to Plymouth even if some of our local Tory MPs don't.
Extending the M5 will cost a lot of money but when you and I are worth only one seventh of what someone in London is worth for transport spending I say we deserve better transport and the poor deal we get at the moment should not be a reason to oppose it".
I said I'd fight for #Plymouth in Parliament and that is exactly what I am trying to do with our transport connectivity.
