Plymouth's Councillors Maddi Bridgeman, Christopher Storer, and John Riley, have quit UKIP to join the Tories. In response Luke Pollard MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport has backed calls from Cllr Tudor Evans OBE, Labour's Leader of the opposition in Plymouth City Council that they stand down and face three by-elections.

You can read Cllr Tudor Evans' call for three by-elections here.

Supprting the call last week, Luke said:

"No one voted for these UKIP Councillors to switch to the Tories. If you defect from one party to another, you should put this to the electorate. That’s why I’m backing Plymouth City Council's Labour Leader, Cllr Tudor Evans OBE who has called for three by-elections. If you want to see the Tories out, vote Labour. These councillors shouldn’t be allowed to get away with switching party without a vote. It's only fair that we have these by-elections and see what the public thinks about their defections."
