Yesterday I was pleased to join the rally to protect Further Education funding for City College Plymouth. FE is vital for Plymouth. We've seen the Tories cut FE funding for City College Plymouth by 24% and there's more cuts to come.
FE and adult education is vital for our city and to deliver the skills we so desperately need. Every time the Tories cut FE budgets it means fewer staff, and every member of teaching and support staff lost means hundreds of students deprived of the courses they need.
I was disappointed but not surprised that none of Plymouth's Tory MPs turned up to the #LoveFE rally yesterday. I hope they listen to people in Plymouth and oppose these cuts.
Well done to Philippa Davey, the UCU team and union reps at City College Plymouth for organising yesterday's protest. It's vital we fight for FE.
