Really pleased to announce that another one of our campaigns has been successful. Back in March last year I launched a campaign with Devonport's Labour councillors for a proper welcome sign for Devonport.
It seemed wrong to me that one of the city's most important and historic towns didn't have a proper road sign.
That road sign is now up on Devonport Hill so visitors and locals alike know they're entering Devonport. Just over a hundred years after the three towns of Stonehouse, Devonport and Plymouth came together to create the City of Plymouth it is right that this historic part of our city is recognised properly.
Together with the lighting up of Charles Church at night I'm pleased that the campaigns I started as a candidate are still delivering for people in Plymouth. Thank you to Kate, Bill and Mark, Devonport's three Labour Councillors, for their support in this campaign. It's another good team win.
I know from regular canvassing in Devonport that people are incredibly proud to live in Devonport. And with the massive regeneration of the area underway there's more reasons than ever to take a second look at this important part of the city. I'm pleased to have played a small part in promoting Devonport. Thank you to all the local people, local businesses and council staff who have backed the campaign for a road sign.
