Luke has been getting a lot of calls and concerns from constituents about the delay in fixing the Sutton Harbour Footbridge and wanted to provide an update.

Luke says:

“The delay in reopening footbridge by the Environment Agency and Sutton Harbour Holdings is unacceptable. These two organisations both have an obligation to work together to find and fund a technical solution to reopen the footbridge.

I have written to the EA calling for an urgent meeting that the Leader of Plymouth City Council and I have offered to host. Businesses on Sutton Harbour can’t afford any further delays – it’s time for these two organisations to get together and sort this out.”

The Sutton Harbour footbridge in Plymouth has been around for over 20 years. The footbridge is designed to improve access as well prevent any flooding. The Management and maintenance responsibilities for the lock gates and the footbridge are shared between the Environment Agency (EA) and Sutton Harbour Holdings plc (SHH).  However, following a failure of the bridge earlier this year it has not been open.
