In recent weeks Luke has been contacted by a number of people who have been told by their employers to take the NHS Covid 19 app off their mobile phones to avoid being told to self-isolate. If you do not have the app installed, you can get a redirect to install it from the NHS website here.

Luke said:

“We all must play our part to save lives and defeat the Coronavirus. I have the NHS Covid 19 app on my phone and I check in at every venue I visit including my workplace. I have not been pinged to self-isolate yet, but the reason I have it on my phone to is to keep me and the people around me safe.

 

Please play your part and install the app and keep it on your phone. If your employer has asked you to delete it please speak to your trade union rep, workplace safety rep or raise it with me and I will speak to them. Every employer should be taking steps to keep their staff safe and that includes allowing their staff to use the NHS COVID-19 app.

 

While I’m not a huge fan of the way the Government has privatised track and trace to Serco and other private firms, we all must play by the rules to defeat this virus.”

Luke has had a number of people contact him saying they’ve been told to remove the app from their phones. Luke has asked questions about this and received this reply from the Ministry of Defence about whether those working in defence jobs in Plymouth should have this app on their phones.

The MoD said:

“We have not provided specific advice to contractors relating to the NHS COVID-19 app, but we are encouraging contractors to adhere to all Government advice, and we continue to signpost all relevant guidance to our suppliers.”
