Today, Luke visited the Dental Access Centre to discuss the spiralling dental crisis facing Plymouth.

Some Plymothians have been waiting longer than two years to see an NHS dentist. At the Dental Access Centre, the team receive over 200 calls a day even though they can only offer 20 appointments.

Luke said:

“No-one should have to go without NHS dental care and it’s shocking that so many people in our city cannot access this basic and vital service.

“Practices are working their socks off, but they are simply overwhelmed.

“I’ve been visiting dental practices across our city recently, and there’s a familiar trend: empty surgeries waiting to be used, but practices unable to recruit staff for them.”

Luke added that Plymouth needs a radical new plan to recruit dentists, hygienists and other dental professionals.
