The cost of living crisis is getting worse by the day. With food prices increasing and energy bills soaring, I know this is a challenging time for many families in Plymouth and up and down the country.

Here are some fantastic organisations across Plymouth that are working their socks off to provide help on a number of cost of living issues such as access to foodbanks, advice on energy bills, affordable clothing and more.

We have some tough times ahead but let’s look out for one another and keep pressure on this broken Tory government to provide the support people desperately need this winter.

Uniform Store Plymouth

As Plymouth gets back to school in September, many families struggling with the rising cost of living are worried about school uniform costs.

The new rules around schools providing an affordable school uniform option will help, but for those worried about being able to afford kitting out their children for school, visit the Uniform Store.

Located on 35 New George St in Plymouth city centre, the team of volunteers there can help you if you need uniform for your kids free of charge. There is no referral needed to use this service.

The shop is open every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 10am to 3pm for the remainder of the school holidays. During term time, there is a click and collect service available.

If you have any old school uniform that you can donate please drop it off the Uniform Store. All schools in Plymouth covered. Thank you for their work.

Plymouth Foodbank

I know that for many families across Plymouth, the staggering increases in the cost of food and drink is currently one of the biggest concerns brought on by the cost of living crisis. I’m worried that the October energy price rise will tip more people into food poverty.

There are some awful stories about individuals who are struggling to afford to feed their families in our city. If you are struggling to put food on the table, there is help available to you.

I recently visited Plymouth Foodbank to hear first-hand about the rise in demand for food. They are a fantastic organisation full of brilliant volunteers who can help you access three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food if you are in need.
