Plymouth MP Luke Pollard has held his eighth public meeting on Brexit ahead of make or break vote on the Prime Minister’s deal to explain his position and listen to concerns from people in Plymouth.

Luke Pollard has already held seven Plymouth Brexit Summits and public meetings since his election – the first in his first 100 days as an MP. This will be his eighth.

Following on from his previous public summits on Brexit since his election in June 2017, the meetings were well attended with hundreds coming out to Devonport on Saturday and to the Plymouth Guildhall on Sunday.

The meetings were designed for people to express how they felt the negotiations had unfolded, what they wanted out of Brexit or feared about its impact. Topics of concern ranged from university funding to Plymouth’s fishing industry. The meetings saw passionate views shared on all sides with people from across the city sharing their thoughts on the UK’s departure from the EU and voicing their concerns about the Prime Minister’s Withdrawal Agreement.

The Labour MP outlined the sequence of events taking place in the coming weeks and the different steps the Government could take after the vote depending on its outcome.

Following the publication of Theresa May’s deal, Luke Pollard has expressed his concerns that it does not provide what the city needs after we leave the European Union but wants to hear from the city before the key vote next week.

Luke Pollard MP said:

“Theresa May ran scared of this vote last December as she knew it would not pass. It is extremely unlikely that anything has changed and that she will have won any concessions from the EU.”

“We know people’s views are changing on Brexit and people are taking an interest in what is a very complicated parliamentary process.  This meeting gives people a chance to share their views and will allow me to explain what I think about the PM’s deal and other scenarios like no-deal.”
