Luke Pollard MP comments on MPs rejecting Theresa May’s Withdrawal agreement:

“This is a catastrophic and embarrassing  defeat for the Prime Minister. She now needs to change course and bring people together, something she has refused to do so far.

I have no faith that either the Prime Minister can bring our country back together nor that this Government is competent enough to address the multiple crises facing our nation from the NHS and housing to Universal Credit and Brexit.

I will be supporting the motion of no confidence vote tomorrow. If that does not succeed in forcing a general election all other options remain on the table including a public vote with Remain as an option.

It didn’t have to be like this. But for two and a half years the Prime Minister has refused to reach out to build a consensus in Parliament to support any Brexit deal and she is now paying the price for it. This is a worrying time for our country and we must all make sure that this uncertainty is not used by those who want to peddle hate and division in our city and across the country.”
