For the past two years I've been one of the organisers of the Michael Foot Memorial Appeal to create a lasting memorial to one of Plymouth's most famous figures.
I'm so incredibly pleased that after two years of fundraising, £50,000 in donations and countless more time, energies, materials and services donated we have begun digging the foundations for the memorial in Freedom Fields Park.
Read about the memorial in the Herald here. We'll be announcing the launch date shortly. The appeal has enjoyed cross-party support in Westminster and I hope all of Plymouth's political figures back the opening. Michael is someone we should be very proud of as a city regardless of your own political view.
