This morning I spoke to BBC Radio Devon about the experience of helping Afghans fleeing the Taliban, with the last flight having left Kabul a year ago today.

As an office my Parliamentary team have helped 19 school children get home to Plymouth, working with 100 families. But there are many more left behind.

Britain made promises to those who worked with our military in Afghanistan to get them to safety and reunite them with their close families. In too many cases, that has not happened.

I’ve worked closely with the Afghan community in Plymouth to help secure family reunion and to push their applications through a Home Office system that is slow, cumbersome and needlessly unkind.

Afghans in Plymouth have been abandoned by the Government. They deserve better.
