Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport
Luke has joined GMB Members form ASDA in calling on the supermarket’s management to think again about the cruel new contracts they are forcing staff onto. The new contracts would mean that for many long-serving staff they will lose holiday allowance, tea breaks, the regularity of their hours and more.
I’ve joined the @GMB_union protest at Asda in #plymouth . The new contract that management are imposing would see long-serving staff lose holidays, pay and certainty of hours. I strongly oppose @asda’s methods and have written to the CEO asking them to think again pic.twitter.com/lUysUzW9bI

Luke said:
“I am backing the Asda workers in Plymouth in opposing this new contract. Asda makes millions of pounds in profits every year and yet they are screwing over their staff to make just a few pennies more. Many of the staff who are affected have given decades of service to Asda and are now being treated appallingly. This is an example of a big company behaving badly and it is not something I will stand for.
I am proud to be a GMB member myself and proud to stand in solidarity alongside these Asda workers who deserve much better than they are being given by management.”
Luke attended the recent protest outside Asda’s Estover store with Charlotte Holloway, Labour’s candidate for Plymouth Moor View, and GMB members from the store.
