Luke responds to today’s vote on Boris Johnson’s Brexit Deal

Commenting on today’s key vote on Brexit, Luke Pollard MP said:

“Today in the House of Commons, the flaws with Boris Johnson’s new Brexit deal were laid bare for all to see.

Johnson’s deal will make Britain poorer, it will put the union with Northern Ireland at risk and it will allow for a disastrous back door, no-deal Brexit in a year’s time.

That’s why I voted to allow more time to scrutinise this deal. Brexit is too important to be rushed and hurried through. I am not interested in Brexit soundbites, I want to see the detail and the detail of this bill is concerning.

Brexit is a mess – it is making our city and country poorer and closing off opportunities for our young people. In my view, the only way to resolve this stage of Brexit is to put this deal, with all of its many flaws,  to the British people in a public vote with remain as the other option. MPs have shown that they cannot agree on what Brexit means, it is time the public had the final say.”
