Only Labour will protect our NHS

Hello #Plymouth – Our NHS is precious. But Tory cuts have cut NHS services to the bone, and here in Plymouth we have a crisis in our Primary care. Only Labour will fund our NHS properly, and stop it from being sold off to Donald Trump.

  •  A decade of Tory cuts has pushed the NHS to the brink.
  •  Labour is offering transformational change to our greatest of institutions
  •  Luke: “I will never ever accept the privatisation of the NHS.”

The NHS is in a crisis. Nine years of Tory cuts and privatisation has pushed the greatest of our institutions to the brink. People in Plymouth are waiting longer for operations and being seen by their GP. Our local surgeries are closing, and the waiting list for NHS dentistry is now at 13,000 people across Plymouth.

Labour is offering real solutions to the NHS. The manifesto has set out bold, practical changes to our NHS that will improve the lives of millions. Labour will bring back the nursing bursary that was cruelly scrapped by the Conservatives. Meaning more nurses can be trained in Plymouth and work in Plymouth. A Labour government will invest in the NHS to give patients the modern, well-resourced services they need by increase expenditure across the health sector by an average 4.3% a year. Make band 1 treatment at the dentist free, encouraging check-ups and, will invest in social care to address the crisis there. A Labour government will provide an additional £1.6 billion a year to ensure new standards for mental health are enshrined in the NHS constitution ensuring access to treatments is on a par with that for physical health conditions.

Luke Pollard, running for re-election as MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport said:

“We know there is an NHS crisis in Plymouth. The crisis isn’t because of our brilliant NHS and social care staff aren’t working hard enough. NHS staff at Derriford and throughout Plymouth’s NHS services work their socks off and are continuing to do so under immense pressures. But they cannot be expected to do more and more with less. They do so much to make our health service one to be proud of and deserve our respect, admiration and support.

The NHS is on the ballot paper this election. The Labour Party are the only party who will provide real change for the Nation Health Service. If re-elected, I will continue campaigning getting our fair share of funding, and I will never ever accept the privatisation of the NHS.”
