Luke, alongside Councillor Bill Stevens and the Friends of Devonport Park, gathered on Saturday to celebrate the 400th year anniversary of the Mayflower’s expedition.

Despite recent weather, the Friends of Devonport Park have been planting fruit trees and maintaining the park for this ceremony. The event marks the creation of the fruiting arboretum in Devonport Park. The Mayflower 400 apple trees have taken over 35 years to perfect.

Luke said:

“It has been a fantastic effort from a group of volunteers who have spent so much time over the past decade looking after, investing, nurturing, planting, pruning, and generally making Devonport Park such a jewel in the crown of Plymouth’s green spaces.”

More information about the Mayflower 400 and special events can be found here.

The Friends of Devonport Park awarded Luke an Honourary Lifetime Membership to the park as part of the ceremony.
