Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport
- The voting for Labour Leadership has started
- Luke talks about why he is supporting Keir
- why others should support Keir
Luke has recently talked about the beginning of voting for the new Labour Leader. His first pick will be Keir Starmer, because he believes that Keir is best for the future of the party. He encourages people to have an open mind and take a look at all the issues that Kier cares so deeply about. Keir, in his campaign to become leader, will be visiting Plymouth in March to talk to people about the issues they care about. If you are curious how voting takes place for Labour Leadership, here is how to do it here.
On monday the 24th of February the Ballot for Leadership voting opened, and it lasts till thursday the 2nd April at 12:00 sharp when the Ballot will close. But take note that on friday the 27th of March it is the last date for postal ballot reissues. also, on monday the 30th of March – Last date for email ballot reissues.
I am voting for Keir Starmer for my first preference and I am encouraging others with a vote in the contest to do the same. To win back voters we lost in places like Plymouth we need a Leader with integrity, authority, a clear forensic approach and a desire to be decent and change politics for the better… I want to see Labour winning again and for that, I want to see our party unite around a bold, radical leader. For me, the person on the ballot best placed to do that is Keir Starmer. He has attracted support from the left, right, centre, top, middle and bottom of the Party and that is testament to his appeal.
I believe in doing politics differently so I am making this case on Keir’s positives rather than his opponent’s negatives. For me, a condition for standing for election must be a desire to unite the party and to heal divisions. Intra-party attacks does not do this and neither will I.
I know from door knocking that many of the people we lost would look at returning to labour with Keir as Leader. I also know he wants a broad Shadow Cabinet to work as a team and a focus on how we win again, regain trust, hold this Government to account and become a credible alternative Government.
