Today Luke Pollard has confirmed he will be making an application to correct minor errors in the election expenses return for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport after mistakes were discovered in accounting for costs.

Two invoices totalling £800 were not included in the election return but should have been. As soon as the mistake was identified legal advice was sought in order to correct the return. The revised figure is still well below the cap for spending. The required correction, if approved by the courts, will not change the result of the election.

Election expenses returns can be amended by the Courts, but such cases are being delayed by the Coronavirus emergency. A court application will be made at the earliest opportunity.

Luke Pollard MP said:

“When this error came to light, I took steps immediately to correct it. This means asking the Courts to reopen my election costs return. It won’t change the outcome of the election, but I would prefer to do the right thing here, be open and transparent and correct the return. When the courts properly resume after the virus a formal application will be made to correct this genuine mistake. I would like to apologise for this oversight.”
