Borrow Don’t Buy, supported by Nudge Community Builders, need your old digital devices to repurpose and recycle them so that local people can gain access to digital services, support and help children to complete their schoolwork.
They’re aware of families all trying to use one smartphone to do school work with three children. They’re hearing about people self-isolating who don’t have access to digital devices to help them connect up with their family and friends which can be devastating for their mental wellbeing .
Could your old devices fill these gaps?
If you’ve an old tablet, smart phone, laptop or computer then why not help us make life a bit easier for these people.
Plymouth City Council’s Good Neighbour volunteers are ready to come and pick up any old devices from you or you could drop them down to Union Corner when Corner Soup is on during 12 – 2pm on a Mon – Fri. Nudge will then take them to Borrow Don’t Buy who will clean, repair, wipe any existing files, upload new software, and PAT test them so they are ready to help new people get on-line.
Nudge will be making the repurposed devices feel really special for their new owners with special storage bags for them and they’d love you to include a letter so the person receiving it will find out about why you donated your device.
It’ll cost them between £30 and £100 to repurpose a device depending on its age and spec. If you haven’t got a device but would like to donate towards the cost of repairing devices, get in touch with Nudge via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together we can share our resources helping more people to get on-line and feel connected!

“I am a proud member of Nudge and have invested in the Clipper when they held their co-operative share issue, because I know what a positive transformative projects like this can make. I am backing their call for devices that can help those people without access to internet study and connect with loved ones during this national crisis. Stonehouse may not be the richest community in terms of money but when it comes to community spirit I would challenge you to find a community with a bigger heart. Please get involved and support Nudge’s appeal for devices if you can.”
