Luke Pollard today took questions from his constituents at the The Time Is Now virtual lobby, which saw people from across the country lobbying their MPs to do more to fight the climate crisis.

Labour is the most ambitious party in parliament backing strong climate change action. Friends of the Earth recently listed Labour first, even before the green party, on our climate ambition.

The Mass Lobby event (Tuesday 30th June) has been welcomed by Luke and his Labour colleagues, who are pleased that so many constituents want to reach out and talk to their MP about climate change which is one of the greatest challenges facing the next generation.

If we’re to learn the lessons of the last recession we should aim to build back better, which means acting now to lay the foundation blocks for long term, sustainable growth and creating large numbers of good green jobs.

In 2018 the Government projected that the low carbon economy would grow 11% a year up to 2030, far outpacing the 1.5% projected for the wider economy. By focusing on and accelerating investment in high growth potential areas the UK can use the low carbon economy to drive itself out of recession and into a stronger economic position. This growth needs to tackle unemployment and be felt by people across the UK especially in areas which have faced historic under development.

This event comes the same day that Labour’s consultation on a Green Recovery closes. The Green Recovery report is being written as we speak and will be published shortly.
