On Sunday 17 January, Luke Pollard appeared on ‘Sunday Politics South West’ alongside Secretary of State for DEFRA George Eustice.
As Luke highlighted on the show, British fishers have been repeatedly let down by the Conservative Government following the UK’s exit from the EU. The Tories have failed to deliver on multiple promises to the fishing industry and have imposed many cumbersome, bureaucratic and expensive obstacles on fishing exports. These obstacles prevent British fishers from trading with Europe effectively.
The Government and George Eustice like to dismiss these barriers as merely “teething problems”, when in truth, they are severe hindrances that are putting the fishing industry, and the livelihoods of fishers, at risk.
Watch this clip of Luke challenging George Eustice on the Government’s failure to ensure fishers can trade effectively.
