Luke Pollard MP Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport

The story this week that 15 million adults in the UK have now received a Covid-19 vaccine is a welcome piece of good news that will come as a relief to people up and down the country.
The vaccine is the UK’s surest way out of the pandemic and will undoubtedly save thousands of life. The success of the vaccine rollout so far highlights the fantastic work of our NHS and vaccine volunteers as well as what the public sector is capable of.
Commenting on the matter, Luke said:
“The roll out of the vaccine has been a great success and shows what can happen when Ministers trust the NHS to deliver the vaccine alongside GPs and our armed forces. I want to thank all those in Plymouth who have gone the extra mile at our vaccine centres and in the community to get the priority groups vaccinated.
“The success of the vaccine stands in stark contrast to the expensive Government failure in privatising track, trace and isolate to Serco. This shambles has cost the taxpayer a staggering £22billion and will continue to cost us more and more for a poor service. The vaccine shows that the expertise in the public sector can deliver and that is what Ministers should have relied on for the track and trace system instead of giving it to their mates in the private sector.
I will be having the vaccine when called forward and I would encourage you to do the same. The vaccine is the only route out of the horrors and restrictions of the pandemic.”
