One of Plymouth’s local fishing companies has successfully sold its fish into a national supermarket chain Aldi. Sound Seafood have supplied Aldi with a range of products, which can be found in store bearing the Union Jack on its packaging. The seven-strong range of Specialbuy products will include fish such as dover sole and monkfish medallions sourced from south-western markets such as Plymouth.

Luke Pollard MP, Shadow Environment Secretary, said:

“I am a vocal supporter of our fishers and our fishing industry. The fishing sector needs our support right now – Brexit and the pandemic has made things quite difficult for them.

The government needs to do much more to help our fishers, but we can also do our bit by buying British. That’s why it is so fantastic that Aldi our backing British fish and I urge other national supermarkets to do the same. I made myself some of Aldi’s Scottish mackerel over the weekend and it was absolutely lovely!”
