Luke Pollard has expressed his condolences to the family of Sir David Amess, who was tragically killed today while serving his constituents in Southend West.

Luke wrote:

“I am really quite shook by the news that Sir David Amess was stabbed at his constituency surgery, in his Southend constituency, and died at the scene.

David was a kind, gentle and thoroughly decent man. I worked with him on animal welfare campaigns where we both shared a love of animals and a desire to protect them. My thoughts are with his family, his Parliamentary team and his community.

David’s death is bringing back memories of the murder of our dear friend, Jo Cox, in 2016. Jo, and David, were good MPs with a passion for their communities. Both were kind, decent and friendly. Jo is deeply missed and so will David be.

After the pain we have experienced as a city in the past few months, I want to send Plymouth’s support to the community in Southend who have lost one of their own. Rest in peace David.”
