This week the Conservative government handed over the Health and Care Bill to the House of Lords after adding a number of measures designed to reorganise the NHS. The bill has come under scrutiny for increasing privatisation and disproportionately impacting low income home owners.

This is what Luke had to say in a video during votes in the Commons on the Bill:

“This is the wrong bill at the wrong time, when our NHS needs resources and support, the government is proposing a massive new reorganisation, additional privatisation, additional delays, and additional distraction.

 

“How is it right that if you own a 1,000,000 pound property, the vast majority of that property will be protected under the new rules, but if you own a house worth about 70 to 100,000 then you’ll have to lose nearly all of it to pay for your social care?

 

“We need a government that is focused on fixing the social care problem, helping recruit and retain enough staff to deal with the people who really need social care. Making sure that they’re being dealt with dignity and respect from people who are being paid a decent wage to provide that social care.”
