Luke challenges Policing Minister, Kit Malthouse, over Met Police homophobia inquiry

Luke has called for an independent inquiry into homophobia in the Metropolitan Police,  following the prejudiced investigation into the gay hate murders of Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor.

An inquest into the murders has deemed that officers’ inadequate handling of the case “probably” contributed to the deaths of Port’s latter three victims, Kovari, Whitworth and Taylor.

Addressing the Minister for Policing, Kit Malthouse, Luke said:

Homophobia is a lived reality for thousands of gay people up and down the country every single day. These avoidable murders of gay young men will be broadcast around the country, and LGBT people will be looking at the Minister’s response and saying, “They do not value my life because I am gay.” A full public independent inquiry will give LGBT people the reassurance that something will be done to stop this ever happening again. Will the Minister reconsider his refusal to have that independent inquiry?
