This week, Luke spoke to the i newspaper about the Royal Fleet Club in Devonport, owned by the Church of Scientology. Luke gave a clear message that the Church should invest in this historic building, or sell it to someone who will.
After Luke wrote to the Church of Scientology last summer, they tidied the exterior, removed fly-tipping and secured the building. Luke emphasised, however, that this is not enough and called on the Church to restore the Fleet Club to its former glory.
Luke said:
“The Church of Scientology is a custodian for an incredibly important building in our community in Plymouth. They’re deliberately leaving it to decay, so I’ve challenged them to use it or sell it. Currently, they’re an absent landlord land banking assets in the hopes of better times and more cash in the future. Devonport is a tightly-knit community and it’s unacceptable that a building at its heart – which has a rich and vibrant history – has been left to decay.”
