Submariners Memorial

I’m the son of a submariner and, as Devonport’s MP, I know what a significant contribution the Submarine Service makes to our city, the Royal Navy and our national security.

That is why I have been a vocal supporter of the Submariners’ Memorial which was unveiled today at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. It was an honour to represent not just Plymouth, Devonport but also the Labour Party at this event.

We have lost 5,960 submariners and this memorial remembers them all but also the contribution made by families who never know when, or if, their loved ones will return.

The memorial was unveiled by the Duke of Cambridge. I know lots of people from Plymouth contributed to the appeal and the finished memorial is as beautiful as it is fitting. We will remember them.
