Luke's letter to Cllr Richard Bingley

Today I’ve written to Cllr Richard Bingley, Leader of Tory-run Plymouth City Council, to keep up the pressure on him to halt the removal of the Armada Way trees.

The public must be given a say on the future of these trees.

The council has promised us a consultation, but I’m concerned that it will be an internal box-ticking exercise that local residents won’t even be able to contribute to.

We all want to see improvements to Armada Way, but removing nearly all the trees there isn’t the right way to go about it. Over 10,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Council to rethink, and I’m amazed this expensive scheme is a priority when the Council is slashing funding for public services across our city.

Let’s keep up the pressure on our Conservative-run City Council to change course.
