Huge win for Plymouth Labour overnight in Moorview ward.
Labour overturned a hefty 600 vote Conservative majority to win by 538 votes! This represents a very large swing of 17% to Labour.
Based on these results Johnny Mercer would lose his seat at the next General Election with Plymouth Moor View being a Labour gain.
The Greens defeated the Tories in the other by-election last night in Plympton triggered by the resignation of two Tory councillors who were elected in 2021, immediately moved to Gloucester and claimed allowances for nearly two years despite not being present or doing their job.
Local Tories backed them while Labour councillors and me called for them to resign. These results were a rejection of the Conservatives’ infighting and incompetence locally and nationally.
Congratulations to Labour’s newest Councillor William Noble and to Gareth Derrick. Gareth will make a superb MP for Plymouth Moor View after the next election. Let’s make it happen.
