Luke Pollard launching the electric blanket fundraiser at Plymouth Foodbank
Thank you! We have raised over £5,000 for the electric blanket fundraiser I launched with Plymouth Foodbank.

With more and more Plymouth families struggling to afford their power bills, this campaign will mean 100 Plymouth families will be able to stay warm over the winter.

Heating an average home in Plymouth costs around £6 per day – more than many people can afford. But putting a family under a heated throw can keep them warm for around 20p.

I want a world where everyone can afford their bills but that’s not where we are today. I’ve been blown away by the generosity of our city and people further afield who have donated.

Plymouth Foodbank is brilliant. They work day in, day out, supporting folks in our city who can’t afford food. I want to thank Maria and Andrew from Plymouth Foodbank in particular but the whole team there deserve our thanks.

As an MP, I sometimes get asked what I’m doing to help people. This fundraiser is a practical campaign to help. But in Westminster I’ve argued for more help with energy bills and my team have helped get £15,000 in unclaimed energy support for folks on pre-payment meters who have to jump through so many hoops to get the energy support those on direct debit get automatically.

The cost of living crisis is getting worse and although the fundraiser has now closed, if you can support groups like the foodbank, or the Soup Run or Provide Devon or any one of the other amazing groups providing support in our city please do. Thank you to everyone who has donated.
