Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport
It was good to be at the opening of the new Salvation Army building on the Barbican in Plymouth alongside Lord Mayor Sue Dann and Deputy Lord Mayor Chris Penberthy. Chris is the local ward councillor and was able to share stories of the incredible community spirit on the Barbican and the real need for spaces where the community can meet in the area.
Many people in Plymouth will know the Salvation Army’s former home at Congress Hall on Armada Way. This giant building is no long suitable for their needs and they’ve moved onto the Barbican into a building previously used by Age Concern.
It’s good to have a community space open again for local people on the Barbican. The Salvation Army are very keen that their new home is used by local people and groups and they are already planning new activities to encourage people into their new space.
