Flameworks is an exceptional creative workshop for makers working in metal, wood, art, clothing and sign writing based on Richmond Walk in Devonport.

Flameworks is a not for profit, community interest company that provides communal creative spaces for a Plymouth-based community of professional artists.

I visited Flameworks on Sunday for their open studio event and to see the water damage on their building. The building they are in needs repair and that’s why Flameworks has launched a crowdfunder to raise £15,000 to pay for the repairs to their studios. If they raise the full amount they’ll be able to repair the roof, replace some windows and sort out some electrics too!

It was good to see the famous forge for metalwork, see the sign writing with Camilla, artist, pottery, glassware and jewellery studios as well as feel the creative atmosphere. There’s 21 resident artists at Flameworks and thanks to a deal with Plymouth City Council they get reduced rent so they can become professional and successful artists in our city. It is a real creative gem for our city but not everyone knows about it, so do look out for their open days, events and activities https://www.flameworks.org/.

The appeal has already raised 80% of the total needed and I’m backing this appeal and encouraging people to donate.
