Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport
This week I spoke about Labour’s defence space policy at Space Comm Expo, the UK’s space industry event held annually in Farnborough.
It was a chance for me to set out Labour’s plan to grow the space and satellite sector in Britain, buying more UK products and equipping our forces with more modern capable equipment.
The UK has world leading companies building satellites, processing data and designing space technology. It’s big business.
Did you know there’s a hi-tech space industry in Cornwall? It was a special treat meeting folks from Cornwall Space Cluster at the event.
There’s huge potential to grow skills, bring investment to the far South West and support cutting edge developments in science, environment and defence.
Britain’s space policy is out of date and it was good to speak to exhibitors, space and satellite companies about how a future Labour government could support this growing and important sector.
Our armed forces already use space every day for communications surveillance, navigation and more. It was good to learn more about what is working and what could be improved.
Thank you to ADS for hosting me, and as sci-fi nerd it was really interesting!
