As a massive football fan, I can not wait for the Euro’s to start next month, both England and Scotland have both qualified. I’ll be cheering them on from Plymouth but, because I want to make sure that those fans that are making the trip to Germany are safe and have the best time possible, I am sharing the advice from the Government for the tournament.

Euro 2024 will be the third largest international sports event this year, after the Olympic and Paralympic games in France. For football fans it is the largest championship in Europe since the COVID pandemic. For many younger supporters in particular this will be their first opportunity to travel overseas and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a major

international football tournament. We anticipate that more than 500,000 UK-based supporters may travel to Germany to attend a game or to enjoy the atmosphere in one of
the fan zones that will be set up by the host cities.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is leading cross-Government preparations for Euro 2024, including the safety and welfare of British citizens, policing and security issues. A contingent of UK police will also be deployed to liaise between the German federal police and fans before, during and after each game. Consular colleagues have also worked closely with each nation’s Football Association, as well as the Football Support Associations themselves, who will also be promoting key messages.

Fans travelling to Germany for Euro 2024 are advised to:

• Check Travel Advice for Euro 2024 and sign up to Germany Travel Advice email updates for all the latest info.
• Download the Euro 2024 app and ensure you’ve planned the whole stay, including travelling between host cities.
• Ensure they have appropriate travel insurance as soon as they book.
• Make sure their passport meets the entry requirements for Germany.
• Get healthcare cover with a free UK GHIC or EHIC. This is not a substitute for travel insurance.
• Read the support for British nationals abroad guidance on staying safe abroad and help that the FCDO can provide.
• Keep their personal belongings and valuables safe.
• Be aware of and respect local cultural sensitivities (and be aware of any potential repercussions).

The UK will have a consular presence in Germany throughout the tournament, to support those British nationals requiring help or advice. If you are travelling, you will be able to
contact the FCDO by phone 24/7 on +44 (0)20 7008 5000 or by calling the British Embassy locally on +49 (0)30 204570. Fans in Germany can access the German emergency services by dialling 112.

Fans planning to travel elsewhere in the region should check Travel Advice for each location they plan to visit or transit through. Rules and requirements will vary from country
to country.

As always, if you need my support you can email my office on luke.pollard.mp@parliament.uk or call on 01752 717255
