Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport
I’m excited to be hosting my forth annual two day summer school this July and I hope you’ll consider applying.
Are you a young person living or studying in Plymouth Sutton & Devonport, due to complete year 10, 11, 12 or 13 before the summer holiday?
Our city is full of talented and hardworking young people, but they don’t always get their voices heard. My summer school will bring together speakers from across the political spectrum, as well as inspirational community leaders, with the aim of giving young people in Plymouth the skills and confidence to make change nationally and locally.
My team and I will be running various sessions, and my hope is that young people will come away brimming with ideas about how to get involved with supporting their communities, and how to campaign on issues that are important to them.
The summer school will be held at the University of Plymouth on 24-25th July 2025.
Here is a taster of what you can expect:
Day 1
- An insight into how the Houses of Parliament work
- Panel of local Councillors and representatives from all parties, talking about their experiences
- Panel of local leading journalists discussing how you can communicate effectively in politics
- An activity on what a politician needs in their metaphorical toolbox
Day 2
Activities and workshops on:
- Public speaking
- Social media
- Speech writing
And more!
