It seems like we have elections all the time in Plymouth and that’s because we do.
–
Plymouth currently elects a third of councillors each year. After three years of elections, there’s a fallow year where there aren’t any local elections (that’s next year).
The city council is consulting on whether we should move to elections once every four years, or to have them every year.
–
I’m keen to hear your views. I personally like annual elections as they keep politicians working hard every year, not just the year before big elections every four years. I think they give more choice to local people and means those elected are more accountable and representative of how the city feels.
–
Some places elect their councillors every four years. Devon and Cornwall do this for instance. I’m keen to hear your views and so is the city council so please – if you have strong views – do share them with the city council.
–
The consultation closes on the 22 September.
