Luke Pollard MP Labour & Co-op Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton & Devonport
Plymouth is Britain’s most liveable city, according to a new report.
I am delighted that our city is getting the recognition it deserves.
Here are five of my favourite things about living here:
1. Our coastline. Plymouth is Britain’s Ocean City for a reason, and there is nothing I like more after a long week than taking a dip at Devil’s Point.
2. Arts and culture. We are home to top-notch theatre, from Theatre Royal, to the Box, to fantastic youth and student theatre, and Plymouth Summer Sessions on the Hoe.
3. Our history. Plymouth is brimming with history. From the sailing of the Mayflower, Charles Darwin’s Beagle, to pioneers like Jack Leslie.
4. Our can-do attitude. Janners don’t shy away from a challenge, like Nudge Builders who are renovating much of Union Street.
5. Most importantly, our community spirit. Our city has faced some real challenges and setbacks in recent years, but we always pull together to help one another.
Of course, an honourable mention must go to Spicy Spuds – a Plymouth delicacy.
