The line by line scrutiny of the Armed Forces Commissioner Bill started today in Parliament.

This is a landmark piece of legislation by the new Labour government to renew the contract between the nation and those who serve.

As the Minister responsible for this Bill, I have been participating in evidence sessions today, along with detailed scrutiny on Thursday, as part of a cross-party bill committee.

Combined with the largest pay rise for our armed forces in 20 years (35% increase for new recruits), we are taking steps to support the brilliant men and women of our armed forces.

After 14 years of falling morale, poor housing and hollowing out, we are rebuilding our forces.
