It was a privilege to plant one of the first trees at the launch event of a group effort sustainability project between the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to help prisoners develop their horticulture skills, as part of a wider sustainability initiative to plant 30,000 trees on MoD land.

The tree planting initiative at the Defence Munitions site in Plymouth is a great example of Defence working with the Ministry of Justice and Plymouth City Council to plant huge numbers of trees.

The tree species and forest structure have been chosen to create a diverse woodland that is resilient to changes caused by the climate crisis. The aim is that the new forest will also increase biodiversity, habitat creation and connectivity in and around the local area.
